The Issue

Living in the Kapock Terrace neighborhoods, just west of McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater, Florida, has its distinct charm, but maintaining beautiful, lush landscaping while keeping costs manageable has been an ongoing challenge. Puzzlingly, only 100 yards away on the east side of McMullen Booth Road, residents enjoy the benefits of reclaimed water service, significantly reducing their water bills and conserving precious drinking water resources.

Access to reclaimed water service in our neighborhood would not only align us with the sustainable initiatives already benefiting nearby communities but would also drastically lower the costs associated with keeping our gardens and lawns green and vibrant. Currently, we are heavily reliant on potable water for irrigation, which is not just more expensive but also a less sustainable choice.

Reclaimed water, a sustainable solution reused from treated wastewater, provides an eco-friendly alternative for irrigation, allowing for the conservation of drinking water and the reduction of water bills. Cities across Florida have successfully implemented such systems to great advantage.

By connecting Kapock Terrace to the existing reclaimed water infrastructure just a stone’s throw away, the City of Clearwater can take a significant step towards enhancing local resource sustainability, supporting environmental conservation goals, and providing financial relief to residents. Such an initiative would help preserve our Florida environment, promoting greener public spaces and establishing Clearwater as a leader in urban sustainability practices.

I urge the City Commissioners of Clearwater to extend the reclaimed water service across McMullen Booth Road into the Kapock Terrace neighborhoods. This actionable change can lead to substantial financial savings for households, promote sustainable living, and enhance the overall appeal of our community.

Join me in asking our city leaders to prioritize this vital infrastructure expansion. Let's reduce our water bills, conserve drinking water, and keep our neighborhood vibrant and eco-friendly for years to come. Please sign this petition to make this beneficial change a reality for us all.
