As a long-time resident of Westbrook, ME, and a parent of two young children who love to explore our neighborhood on foot and by bike, I am deeply concerned about the safety of our streets. Our neighborhood is vibrant and full of life - children playing, pets being walked, adults jogging or strolling. Yet this lively scene is constantly threatened by speeding vehicles and drivers failing to stop at intersections.

The installation of speed tables at the 4-way stop intersections (Maple St/Union St & Middle St/Union St) in our neighborhood would significantly increase pedestrian safety. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), speed tables are proven traffic calming measures that reduce vehicle speeds by an average of 18-25%. They also improve compliance with stop signs.

Our community deserves safe streets for all residents - whether they're on foot or behind the wheel. By installing speed tables at these critical intersections, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy our beautiful neighborhood safely.
