Hi everyone,
We have an exciting update — and it’s thanks to your voices and support!
Cobb County DOT has confirmed that an updated protected crosswalk is in the works for Jamerson Road at Davis Elementary. Planned improvements include:
- A protected crosswalk with small medians
- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) — flashing signs activated by push buttons
- Updated signage -Complete
- A speed sentries to monitor driver behavior - Complete
These improvements are scheduled to be formally awarded in August, with construction expected to be completed by the end of the year. While we would have loved to see implementation ahead of the school year, this is real and meaningful progress — and it wouldn’t have happened without your advocacy.
We’ve also confirmed that the school crossing guard will remain in place during school hours to support student safety. I’ll be following up early next week to ensure that the crossing guard hours are appropriately scheduled and confirmed ahead of the August 4th return to school.
This progress wouldn’t be possible without the partnership and responsiveness of Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, Drew R. (Director of Cobb County DOT), and Chief Wayne Pickett. Their leadership and willingness to collaborate with the community have helped bring these next steps into focus.
Thank you again for standing behind this effort. Our kids deserve safe routes to school all year— and this is a step in the right direction.
With appreciation,
Courtney
