We recently saw the tragic news of the woman who was murdered because she was pushed on the tracks at the Times Square Subway Station. To make New York City's subway system safer to use, we are petitioning that the MTA install platform screen doors at all of its subway stations. 

We believe that platform screen doors will prevent further tragedies from happening like this again, where someone is murdered because they were pushed onto the train tracks. Platform screen doors can also prevent people from committing suicide by stepping onto the train tracks. Finally, platform screen doors will prevent the MTA's train drivers and first responders from witnessing the trauma of seeing someone be killed by an oncoming train. 

Other subway systems around the world, like the London Underground, Montreal's Réseau express métropolitain (REM), Singapore's MRT, and Hong Kong's MTR system all use some form of platform screen doors or platform edge doors for commuter safety at most of their stations. Even internal airport train systems, such as at Newark International Airport or JFK International Airport, have platform screen doors for commuter safety. The MTA has considered installing platform screen doors since the 1980s, but so far no progress has been made. 

We believe that platform screen doors would be a great, cost-effective safety feature to install so that we can prevent further tragedies from happening to New Yorkers. Please sign our petition to help make New York a safer place to live.
