The Issue

Co-op Academy, formerly known as Plant Hill, is a local high school in Higher Blackley, Manchester. On the 9th of July, 2026, a tragic incident occurred that shook our community to its core. A 14-year-old female pupil attended her class that morning, and during the first session, she produced what a fellow pupil described as a 'Rambo' knife. The girl then proceeded to attack two other 14-year-old students. When the teacher intervened to stop the attack, he too was injured. Thankfully, all three individuals, although hurt, survived the ordeal, and the girl was apprehended.

This shocking event has raised serious concerns about the safety measures in place at our schools. As a community, we cannot allow such an incident to repeat itself. We must ensure the safety of our children and educators by taking concrete steps to prevent weapons from entering our schools. One effective measure would be the installation of metal detectors at school entrances.

Metal detectors are a proven method to deter the presence of weapons on school property. According to a study conducted by the National School Safety and Security Services, schools that have implemented metal detectors have seen a significant reduction in the number of incidents involving weapons. By investing in this preventive measure, we are not only protecting our children and staff but also fostering an environment conducive to learning, free from fear and violence.

We urge the local council, the school board, and educational authorities in Manchester to prioritize this issue and allocate funding for the installation of metal detectors in all schools within our district. By taking action now, we can provide a safer future for our children and prevent any potential tragedies.

Your voice is pivotal in making this change. Join us in this campaign to safeguard our community's schools. Please sign the petition to support the installation of metal detectors and to help ensure the safety and peace of mind of our students, teachers, and parents.
