Hi All,
I heard back from the City of Burnaby today. Martin To from the Transportation Department gave me a call, and there are now two phases in the works. He said it was just coincidental timing and nothing to do with the petition, but...i'm not so sure :).
Phase 1
The City has asked BC Hydro for a quote to install approximately two lights as a temporary solution, one between Griffiths and Salisbury, and one between Salisbury and Edmonds. Hey, two lights are better than none as a start!
Once BC Hydro provides the cost, it has to go through the City’s approval process. They could not give me a firm timeline, but the hope is that this temporary solution could move ahead within the next two to three months.
Phase 2
There are now capital plans being discussed for installing multiple permanent lights along the path. This requires several layers of approval within the City, including budget discussions. If approved, the timeline would likely be closer to a year or more.
As soon as I hear whether the City approves the Phase 1 quote from BC Hydro and we have more clarity on timing, I will share another update here.
Thanks again to everyone who has supported and shared this. Keep it up!
