Some context:

I’ve been in communication with BC Hydro and the City of Burnaby since March 2025 about installing street lights along this stretch of the bike path.

The land is operated by BC Hydro, but the City needs to approve any lights that go up, which has resulted in a bit of a bureaucratic ping-pong match. For a while, I was being referred back and forth between the two in what felt like a mildly kafka-esque loop.

After reaching out to City Council, Joe Keithly helped get Burnaby Engineering in touch with me, and they brought Community Safety into the conversation. I really appreciate that movement, but things have since stalled.

I understand that the wheels of bureaucracy move slowly. That said, this path is dark. If you’ve ever walked, biked, or jogged this section at night, especially in the rain, you know what I’m talking about. And for the dog-walkers among us, you are probably aware that coyotes tend to make their evening appearances too.
