On October 3rd, 2023, a terrifying incident occurred in our peaceful neighborhood of Coopers Bluff, in Socastee on Peachtree Rd. An intoxicated driver lost control of his Cadillac EXT and crashed into our bedroom at 2:20 am at 1563 Swing Bridge Way. My wife and I were jolted from sleep and had to dive off our bed to avoid being hit by the incoming vehicle. We sustained injuries from this horrific event that invaded our safety and privacy. Since then, we have been living with constant fear and nightmares.

This is not just about us; it's about the entire community's safety. Our children, pets, neighbors - everyone deserves to feel safe within their own homes and yards without the fear of an automobile crashing into them.

We are calling for immediate action to install guard rails along the roads in Coopers Bluff neighborhood. This will serve as a protective barrier against any vehicles that might run off the road due to any reason - be it intoxication or loss of control.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year in America alone (source: NHTSA). By installing guard rails in our neighborhood we can significantly reduce this risk locally.

Let's ensure that no other family has to endure what we went through on that fateful night. Let's make Coopers Bluff safer for everyone who calls it home.
