Install CCTV cameras in all Paris Metro trains
The Issue
Public transport should be a place where everyone feels safe. Sadly, for many women using the Paris Metro, this is not the reality.
I am starting this petition after experiencing a frightening incident on the Paris Metro. A man began masturbating while staring directly at me. Terrified, I moved to another carriage, but he followed me. When I got off the train, he continued to follow me.
No one should have to experience this simply for using public transport.
Unfortunately, my experience is not an isolated one. Many women have reported incidents of sexual harassment, indecent exposure, stalking and assault on the Paris Metro. Too often, offenders believe they can act without consequence.
One important step towards improving passenger safety is the installation of CCTV cameras on every Paris Metro train.
Onboard CCTV can:
- Deter criminal and antisocial behaviour.
- Help identify and prosecute offenders.
- Provide vital evidence to support victims and police investigations.
- Reassure passengers that their safety is being taken seriously.
- Many public transport systems around the world, including much of the London Underground and numerous rail networks, use onboard CCTV as part of wider safety measures.
- While CCTV alone cannot prevent every crime, it is an important tool for improving security, increasing accountability and supporting law enforcement.
We are calling on the RATP and the French Government to commit to installing CCTV cameras on all Paris Metro trains as part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle sexual harassment and protect passengers.
Everyone deserves to travel without fear.
If you believe public transport should be safe for everyone, please sign this petition and share it with your friends and family. Together, we can encourage meaningful action to make the Paris Metro a safer place for all.
