Living on Common Road in Kensworth has become increasingly hazardous due to the excessive speeds at which vehicles travel. As a resident, I experience the dangers firsthand every time I maneuver my vehicle off the drive or take a walk along the narrow footpath that lines the road. The threat isn't just to those of us in our cars, but also gravely impacts pedestrians, especially children, who utilize the path to reach local schools and parks.

Common Road is not just a thoroughfare; it's the heart of our community in Central Bedfordshire and a weekly count of 6500 vehicles use this road. Yet, the reckless speeding has transformed what should be a tranquil residential area into a perilous traffic zone. Our narrow pavements provide little protection against a vehicle that might veer off course, and the constant worry of a speeding incident looms over our daily routines. 

Statistics indicate that traffic calming measures can significantly reduce road accidents and improve pedestrian safety. Average speed cameras have proven effective in similar residential areas, leading to a decrease in speed violations and enhancing the safety of both drivers and pedestrians. In areas with these cameras, studies have shown a reduction in the number and severity of accidents, demonstrating their clear benefit for community safety.

I urge the Central Bedfordshire Council to prioritize the safety of Common Road residents, visitors, and children by installing average speed cameras. This solution would not only encourage responsible driving but also demonstrate a commitment to protecting the lives and wellbeing of the Kensworth community.
