The Issue

I am writing to draw attention to a critical yet overlooked issue at Skyline High School: Portable 104 does not have air conditioning. For over 50 years, this portable classroom has been equipped with nothing more than a heating system, a basic vent, and no thermostat. This persistent issue adversely affects our learning environment.

Current research highlights the severe impact of high temperatures on cognitive abilities. It is well-documented that temperatures above 80 degrees can lead to cognitive decline. In recent days, the temperature in Portable 104 has ranged from 87 to 89 degrees, and we're only in March. These uncomfortable conditions are detrimental to both teaching and learning. How can we expect students to perform at their best when the very environment hinders their ability to concentrate?

The absence of adequate climate control in Portable 104 compromises educational standards and student well-being. The heat not only disrupts our ability to engage in focused and meaningful learning but also poses health risks, including dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Immediate action is needed. We call upon the school administration and local education authorities to allocate resources for the installation of air conditioning in Portable 104. Doing so will create a more conducive learning environment, improve student performance, and uphold the standard of education expected at Skyline High School.

Join us in urging the relevant authorities to prioritize our students' educational experience and welfare. By signing this petition, you stand with us in demanding a necessary change for a healthier and more productive learning atmosphere.
