The issue

As a student who regularly traverses these routes, I am deeply concerned about the lack of lighting, which leaves these paths in complete darkness after sunset. These boulevards are predominantly used by women, including nurses and students. The absence of proper lighting not only creates an environment of fear but also poses a serious safety risk.

It’s not news that Southport is suffering a mental health crisis and pathways outside a hospital and now mental health facility is not the place to be risking the safety of our nurses and students.

It is unacceptable that I, and many other students, feel compelled to leave campus before dark simply because it is unsafe to walk to our cars or the uni village. This issue directly impacts our ability to study and work effectively, and it demands immediate attention.

Our safety should not be compromised by inadequate infrastructure.

This petition will be submitted to council after reaching 100 signatures.
