The Issue

Every day, my 11-year-old son faces the dangerous task of crossing Yarmouth Road in Blofield to get home from school. As a parent, I accompany him and find myself battling the same anxiety and risk while simply trying to walk my dog. The road is perpetually busy, making it exceptionally difficult for pedestrians, especially our children, who must navigate this chaotic environment to reach their schools safely.

Yarmouth Road is a major thoroughfare and a critical route for local traffic, yet it lacks a crucial safety feature: a zebra crossing. Without this vital pedestrian crossing, our children, families, elderly residents, and other pedestrians are left vulnerable to the constant threat of speeding vehicles and inattentive drivers.

According to the Department for Transport, pedestrian crossings not only reduce pedestrian casualties by up to 46%, but they also help lower vehicle speeds, creating a much safer environment for pedestrians. Installing a zebra crossing would not only safeguard the children from Blofield who use the transport to High School but also provide a safer crossing point for all primary school children and other residents, making our community a more secure and conscious haven.

Let's not wait for an accident to push for change. It's our responsibility as a community to ensure the safety of our streets for everyone, especially our most vulnerable members — our children. It's time we come together and urge the local council to prioritise pedestrian safety by installing a zebra crossing on Yarmouth Road.

By signing this petition, you are joining our call to action, demanding immediate attention and remedial measures. Let's create a safer path for our children and all pedestrians traversing Yarmouth Road in Blofield. Your signature can be the catalyst for a safer community, where crossing the road is not a challenge but a guaranteed right to safety. Sign now to make a difference!
