Install a zebra crossing at West Winch Primary School
The Issue
We are calling for a zebra crossing to be installed outside West Winch Primary School to improve the safety of children, parents, carers, and members of the local community.
Recently, while crossing the road with children in my childminding wagon, a passing car clipped the wagon. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but it was a frightening incident that could easily have had a much more serious outcome.
Every day, families, childminders, and school staff cross this busy road with young children in tow, exposing them to significant risks. This road sees a high volume of traffic, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up times, which makes it even more dangerous without appropriate pedestrian crossings.
Installing a zebra crossing at West Winch Primary School could prevent potential accidents and ensure a safer passage for everyone accessing the school. According to the Department for Transport, well-placed pedestrian crossings can reduce pedestrian accidents by as much as 25%. This statistic alone highlights the importance of implementing traffic safety measures like the one we are proposing.
Furthermore, a zebra crossing will serve as a visual reminder to motorists to slow down, be considerate, and always prioritize pedestrian safety. School zones should be sanctuaries of safety, not places where parents and childminders fear for the well-being of those they are responsible for.
We urge the Norfolk County Council and relevant authorities to take immediate action and approve the installation of a zebra crossing. Doing so would demonstrate a commitment to the safety and welfare of the community, ensuring that West Winch Primary School is a safer environment for our children to learn and grow.
Please sign this petition to support our demand for a zebra crossing outside West Winch Primary School and help protect our most vulnerable community members.
