Install a traffic light on dangerous Texas road

The Issue

I live at the intersection frequently marked by tragedy, a place close to my heart which serves as the backdrop of my hometown stories. This once peaceful community road has witnessed sorrow etched in the pavement, with the most recent being the tragic death of a 16-year-old girl who passed away on March 5th, 2026. I knew her, and her loss is a painful reminder of the imminent danger families face every day we drive this route.

This stretch of road has seen several fatal and countless severely injurious accidents. It's more than just concerning; it's alarming. Every journey taken on this roadway risks becoming the next headline. We need to act fast to prevent further loss of life.

The problem lies not in avoiding this road, as it is central to our community's livelihood, but in its unregulated flow of traffic. The installation of a traffic light could drastically reduce speed and encourage safe commuting. Data from the Federal Highway Administration indicates that traffic signals can reduce total crash frequency by approximately 53-71%.

Despite understanding the enormity of the issue, the responsibility has often been miscommunicated or ignored. We have been advised that the accountability lies with Texas DPS, who are in a position to conduct a crucial survey to assess this dire situation. Alternatively, they can direct us to the appropriate authority that could rectify this predicament.

Our request is simple but urgent: the implementation of a traffic light on this notorious road. Doing so would ensure a safer environment for our children, families, and everyone who calls this community home. With each delay, we risk another life being reduced to yet another statistic.

The community must stand united in calling for immediate action. Please sign this petition to urge Texas DPS to execute a safety survey and proceed with installing a traffic light. Your support could be the pivotal factor that saves the next life.
