Install a Traffic Light at Summit Drive & Highway 78

Install a Traffic Light at Summit Drive & Highway 78
The Issue
I've personally encountered near-misses at the intersection of Summit Drive and Highway 78 in the Escondido/unincorporated San Diego areas. Vehicles often drive fast through this area, and the blinding sun glare greatly reduces visibility, making it extremely difficult to navigate the intersection safely. These factors, coupled with the already complicated traffic dynamics of the area, pose significant threats to both drivers and pedestrians.
This intersection has been the site of numerous accidents, and the safety concerns are growing. It should not require a tragedy for us to recognize the urgent need for a traffic light. The absence of a signal not only compounds the danger but also disregards the well-being of our community members. Recently, there was yet another accident highlighting the necessity for a controlled traffic flow solution to prevent more such incidents.
Traffic lights have consistently been shown to reduce the number of collisions at intersections. According to the Federal Highway Administration, implementing traffic lights typically reduces severe accidents by more than 50%. With the installation of a signal, we can significantly enhance safety and encourage responsible driving habits.
It's crucial that the Department of Transportation takes immediate steps to install a traffic light at this intersection. The safety of our community is at stake, and proactive measures must be taken to protect the lives of everyone who travels through this area.
Please join me in urging the local and state authorities to prioritize this critical safety enhancement. Sign this petition to help bring about necessary change, and together we can make Summit Drive and Highway 78 safer for everyone.
