As a student at St James High School and representative of my peers who have been involved in dangerous accidents stemming from the unorganized traffic controls near our school, I urge the relevant authorities to install a traffic light at the entrance of St. James High School. Many of us have had near misses, or worse, due to traffic confusion in such a concentrated area. National statistics show that school areas with regulated traffic controls, including stoplights, have 39% less accidents than those without. (Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). An improvement in traffic safety systems is not only a right for us students who travel to and from school every day, but is absolutely necessary to prevent future accidents and potential tragedies. Please sign this petition to support our appeal for the installation of a traffic light at St James High School entrance and add a layer of protection for all students.
