Install a Supervised Pedestrian Crossing for G. S. Kidd Memorial School Students

Install a Supervised Pedestrian Crossing for G. S. Kidd Memorial School Students
The issue
We, the undersigned, call on the Department of Education, Gunnedah Shire Council, and G. S. Kidd Memorial School to urgently install a supervised pedestrian crossing (with a crossing supervisor) near the school to ensure the safety of all students, families, carers, and staff.
G. S. Kidd Memorial School caters for students with diverse and complex needs, many of whom require additional support and structure to navigate roads and high-traffic areas safely. The current pickup and drop-off area is extremely busy, with cars, buses, pedestrians, prams, mobility aids, and students all moving through the same narrow space without any formal crossing or safety supervision in place.
A supervised crossing would:
Provide a consistent, safe point for students to cross the road
Reduce the risk of accidents, near misses, and unsafe crossings
Support students who require visual cues, structure, and guidance
Assist families, carers, and staff who currently struggle with unsafe traffic flow
Promote safer community driving behaviour around the school
There have already been multiple incidents and near misses in this area, and waiting for a serious injury before action is taken is unacceptable. The safety needs of G. S. Kidd students must be treated with urgency.
We respectfully request that the necessary authorities take immediate steps to implement a supervised pedestrian crossing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members of the school community.
Our children deserve safe passage to and from school — please take action now.
