For years, my friends and I have frequently drove to the Casey’s Gas Station in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, especially during the school year. While our visits often bring joy and convenience, our departure is notably fraught with stress and danger. Turning left onto Roosevelt Road is a nerve-wracking challenge due to the constant, heavy flow of traffic. A simple drive has often led to unnerving close calls, leaving us with a lingering dread of what could potentially happen.

Roosevelt Road, a bustling thoroughfare, sees a high volume of vehicles every day. The lack of a stoplight at this particular junction not only risks drivers’ safety but also causes unnecessary delays, affecting everyone who relies on this route — whether they are students like us, commuters, or families trying to run their daily errands. Inadequate traffic control here is a ticking time bomb waiting to turn these close calls into something much worse.

Statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation reveal that intersections without adequate traffic signals are significantly more prone to accidents. A stoplight would effectively streamline the flow of vehicles, significantly reduce the risk of accidents, and ultimately provide much-needed ease for all users of this community hub.
