Install a stop sign or speed bump at Parsons crosswalk

The Issue

On a regular day in Milford, CT, outside Parsons, an alarming incident took place that shook my world. My beloved dog was hit by a car at a crosswalk intersection as we were crossing. Despite the presence of a crosswalk and the fact that some cars had stopped to let us pass, one vehicle disregarded the safety etiquette and sped through, resulting in this tragic accident. Thankfully she is doing great!

The intersection where this occurred is a notoriously busy one, frequented by students, families, and pet owners like myself. Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident. Many residents have expressed concerns over the years regarding the safety of this crosswalk, yet no significant measures have been implemented. It's time we acted before another preventable accident takes place.

The simplicity of a stop sign or a speed bump could drastically improve safety at this intersection. According to the Federal Highway Administration, implementing traffic calming measures such as speed bumps can reduce speed by 10-15% on average. Additionally, studies have shown that stop signs can significantly improve pedestrian safety and decrease traffic accidents.

Acting on this issue is crucial not just for me and my pet, but for the entire community that traverses this route daily. With the school nearby, children are at an even greater risk. The installation of a stop sign or speed bump would command greater driver attention and enforce compliance with traffic rules.

Join me in urging the Milford City Council to prioritize the safety of its citizens by installing a stop sign or speed bump at the Parsons crosswalk. Your signature can help propel this much-needed change and potentially save lives. Please sign this petition and share it with others concerned about our community's safety.
