Install a Stop Sign at the Intersection of 50 E Plumstead Avenue and Congress Avenue.

The Issue

As a resident and daily witness of the heavy human traffic on 50 E Plumstead Avenue, I have borne testament to the danger that it poses, particularly during Sunday Services. With the large church on this street housing over 200 congregation members and their children, the lack of a stop sign at its intersection with Congress Street is nothing short of alarming. On any given Sunday, the potential for an accident is palpable, a tragedy waiting to happen.

The need for additional safety measures in our community, especially on our roads, cannot be overstated. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Shttps://assets.change.org/photos/6/xr/sf/SgxRSFMpZhIfSDr-800x450-noPad.jpg?1744257949afety stop signs, when used at appropriate locations, are proven to reduce crashes (IIHS, Handbook for Designing Roadways for the Aging Population). Our borough should not wait for a disastrous event before taking the necessary steps to ensure our safety. The installation of a stop sign will not only regulate traffic but also save lives, possibly preventing a tragedy that is statistically almost inevitable.

In the interest of the safety of residents, churchgoers, and especially our children, I urge the Lansdowne Police Department to install a stop sign at the intersection of 50 E Plumstead Avenue and Congress Street without delay. Please sign this petition to show your support for safer streets in our community.
