Install a Stop Sign at Dangerous Neighborhood Intersection
The Issue
The need for a traffic stop sign at the intersection of Vista del Arroyo Dr and Westover Terrace is crucial. Even more so due to the increased traffic, vehicular and foot, over the years. Not only has Unidad Park’s popularity increased but we have gained highly frequented walking trails and businesses that draw visitors to our neighborhood. As we welcome visitors of all ages we have also had to resort to taking extra precautions for the safety of our neighborhood due to an increase of motorists, many of whom are not familiar with our neighborhood or considerate of the safety of others. Between vehicle accidents and vehicle with pedestrian accidents, the risk has become too high for us to ignore this popular intersection that does not have even a yield sign in place. Once the construction began on college hills they rerouted traffic flow through Forest Trail, which runs directly in front of Bowie Elementary as well as into College Hills walking trails, Unidad Park and San Angelo’s only dog park. Now our neighborhood will be experiencing the construction of a splash pad for San Angelo drawing even more traffic to an already busy and dangerous intersection.
Living on this street for nearly a decade, I have witnessed numerous wrecks, including injuries to pedestrians. The rerouted traffic has significantly increased the volume at this intersection near a park and within a school zone in San Angelo, TX. Daily, we see pedestrians that include families, elderly individuals, elementary schoolchildren, pets, and workers who frequently walk this path all hours of the day. Simply driving to our homes has become hazardous; my neighbors and I have had many close calls or witnessed vehicle accidents due to drivers failing to yield. When we fear a walk to the park with our loved ones , our elderly neighbor on their way to the walking trail or even walking our children to school, we have a problem on our hands. A problem that a simple traffic sign would help just by it’s presence to alert motorists to stop, look and then safely proceed.
Installing a stop sign at this intersection is crucial for ensuring the safety of our community members. A stop sign would help manage traffic flow more effectively and reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. Please join us in urging local authorities to take immediate action by signing this petition.
