Every morning, I send my daughter off to Northwest High School with a heavy heart. The entrance to the school is a constant source of anxiety. We experience frequent car accidents and severe traffic congestion during the peak hours when students are arriving or departing. This isn't just a minor inconvenience—it's a significant safety hazard for our children and all who use this road.

The problem stems from the lack of a stop light at the entrance of Northwest High School. Drivers exiting the school parking lot are forced to navigate through dense traffic without a clear line of sight. This dangerous situation happens twice a day and becomes even more perilous during adverse weather conditions or when driver visibility is compromised. With hundreds of students, school staff, and local residents affected daily, the current state of affairs is simply unacceptable.

Data from the National Safety Council indicates that school areas are some of the most volatile in terms of traffic incidents, with nearly 25,000 children injured each year in school zone accidents in the United States alone. Our community should not contribute to these alarming statistics.

The solution is clear and attainable: install a stop light at the school entrance that operates during the start and end of the school day. This would regulate the flow of traffic, ensure a safer crossing for pedestrians, and drastically reduce the likelihood of accidents.

With the cooperation of the local school district and city transportation authorities, we can create a safe environment for our students and community members. The costs associated with implementing a stop light are far outweighed by the potential lives saved and injuries prevented.
