The Issue

Back in September of 2024, our 10-year-old son Logan was hit by a car crossing Cypress Gardens Road, on his way home from school. This area has a notoriously dangerous curve where numerous vehicles have crashed into the guardrail, some even breaking through the wall into the Cypress Landing neighborhood. The lack of a sidewalk in this critical area is an ongoing hazard, risking the safety of children, pedestrians, and cyclists every day.

There is a crossing guard at Mahogany Run, which allows Garden Grove Elementary students to safely cross from the north side of the road to the south; however, once on the south side of Cypress Gardens Road, there is nowhere for them to walk or ride their bikes safely. Along that stretch of road, there are still multiple residential neighborhoods where these children live. The installation of a sidewalk along this very short stretch of road can make a huge difference in the safety of these children!

Winter Haven's resident safety should be a top priority, and the installation of a sidewalk on this busy road would significantly enhance the security for all pedestrians, including school children like Logan.

With a well-constructed sidewalk, we can prevent further tragic accidents and provide peace of mind to families living in or near this area.

We urge our county leaders to take swift action in constructing a sidewalk on this portion of Cypress Gardens Road. This project will make our community safer and improve the quality of life for all residents. Winter Haven deserves safe and secure pathways for children and pedestrians. Please sign this petition to make your voice heard and help protect our community.
