Many children at Waterside Primary could walk safely to school if there was a safe crossing on Waterside Road.

The current situation places our children at significant risk. The speed limit of 30 mph on Waterside Road is not a sufficient safety measure.

We want the older children at Waterside to develop independence and stay healthy and feel able to walk to school.  We want the traffic congestion to reduce so parents can walk safely with their children.

Our community, therefore, urges the local council to take immediate action by installing a pedestrian crossing on Waterside Road near the school. Such an installation will not only enhance the safety of the children but also promote a more walkable neighbourhood environment.

There are viable, cost-effective solutions available, such as zebra crossings or pedestrian traffic signals, that can be implemented swiftly to make a real difference in our day-to-day lives. The financial investment is small compared to the priceless benefit of safeguarding our children.

Let us not wait for an unfortunate incident before necessary action is taken.
