Every day, we entrust Wasco Elementary with the safety and education of our children. As parents and community members, we deeply appreciate the administration’s dedication to enforcing strict drop-off and entry protocols. However, it is disheartening to witness a glaring oversight in the school’s infrastructure: the absence of a safe pedestrian sidewalk on one side of the property.

This lack of a basic sidewalk forces our children to tread through grass and dangerously close to vehicle traffic, creating a significant safety hazard. It is not just an inconvenience; it is a liability that poses a real and present danger to the well-being of our students. No child should have to risk their safety to reach their school—a place that should be safe and welcoming.

We've documented numerous instances of near misses and concerns raised by conscientious parents. In light of these documented risks, we, the local parents, have compiled a petition requesting immediate action to rectify this infrastructure failure.

We urge the board of education and local government authorities to collaborate on an intergovernmental agreement to install a pedestrian sidewalk, which will adequately address this critical gap in safety. Let us use this petition to amplify our voices and demand that the relevant authorities prioritize the installation of a sidewalk that matches the high safety standards set within Wasco Elementary itself.
