Every day, children from Ermington Public School residing west of Marsden Rd face the dangerous task of crossing this busy road on their journey to and from school. This isn't just a matter of inconvenience; it's a pressing safety issue that demands immediate attention. In recent years, two of our precious students have been victims of motor vehicle accidents while attempting to navigate this crossing. The emotional toll on the families and community is immeasurable, and the stark reality we face is the risk to our children’s safety.

Currently, to safely cross Marsden Rd, families must take a significant detour down to the Victoria Rd traffic lights. This additional effort is not just impractical but also an unfair burden on young children and their caretakers, many of whom are pressed for time during morning commutes. We believe our local and state governments have the power and responsibility to address this issue swiftly.

We urge governments to collaborate and invest in creating a safe pedestrian crossing by installing a pedestrian island. Specifically, we request this be placed at the Fitzgerald Rd pedestrian walkway near 36 Marsden Rd. This is a location that is heavily trafficked by school children and other pedestrians attending the new Bennelong Sports Centre, and a pedestrian island would not only ease the crossing but significantly increase safety for all involved.
