In the wake of a tragic accident that claimed the life of a beloved family member at one of the busiest and most dangerous intersections on our council roads, I am urging our local authorities to take immediate action to prevent further tragedies.

This intersection has been a known hazard for years, plagued by heavy traffic and frequent accidents. Despite numerous complaints and reports from local residents, no substantial measures have been taken to address the dangers it poses. According to local accident statistics, this intersection has witnessed a multitude of accidents, several of which have resulted in serious injuries and now a fatality. 

The time for action is now. Installing a roundabout or traffic lights at this perilous crossing will significantly reduce the risk of accidents by regulating traffic flow and providing a safer passage for all road users. Statistics from the Department of Transport show that roundabouts reduce fatal accidents by 82% and injury accidents by over 44% compared to intersections without any control measures.

We have seen the success of such implementations in neighboring communities, where installing roundabouts has led to smoother traffic flow and a marked decrease in collisions. Considering these proven benefits, neglecting to address this issue at our dangerous intersection is simply unacceptable.

We demand that the local council prioritize the safety of its residents by immediately commissioning a study to determine the best solution for traffic control at this critical junction. We request full transparency in the study's findings and a commitment to act swiftly once the evidence is presented.
