Transport for Greater Manchester: install a ramp at Firswood Station! 

The situation with the lifts at Firswood station is untenable unfair and unsafe. Something needs to change.

The lifts aren’t fit for purpose and they break all the time. In the past year that we’ve lived here (we moved from chorlton), only one of the two lifts has worked, with both of them being out of action one a couple of occasions. This often means myself and many parents end up hauling prams up and down stairs, trying to juggle toddlers and babies. Or they just end up avoiding tram travel altogether. 

What about people in wheelchairs, or older people who can’t manage the stairs. Should they be excluded from using the tram at Firswood because the lift situation is dicey? 

There’s plenty of space for a Trafford Bar style ramp - which would be accessible for all, and would just…work. There’s some lovely planting there at the moment: I’d prefer it if everyone - no matter who they are - can use the tram stop at Firswood. 

As a first step, I’d like a meeting with Transport for Greater Manchester about this with people affected by it, so we can argue for the council to spend our council tax to #rampup Firswood tram stop!
