Hi all

We have received a response from the City of Sydney Council -- in short they have agreed to install a crossing, but have said it will take a lot of time and $$. Response below -

"The City places a high priority on pedestrian safety and accessibility and is keen to wherever possible, implement traffic measures to encourage walking.

As you can appreciate, the costs to install a pedestrian crossing would be significant and a detailed investigation would be required to ensure the design is safe for all road users and also to address flooding, drainage and lighting impacts.

City staff have undertaken preliminary investigations and found that a pedestrian crossing is feasible in Liverpool Street, north of Barcom Avenue (where the current raised threshold is -   https://maps.app.goo.gl/Lu7rpW3Wrw457oxB8 This is subject to detailed investigations by our road designers. A pedestrian crossing is not suitable to be installed between Barcom Avenue and Boundary Street due to its close vicinity to nearby intersections which is unsafe and impacts on driver’s visibility when approaching the pedestrian crossing.

The design investigations will be considered for funding as part of a future works program, following the annual review of project priorities, which will be finalised at the end of the year.

There are currently a number of approved proposals in the LGA awaiting for funding. Projects in the traffic capital works program are prioritised for funding taking into consideration safety issues and traffic conditions, walking and cycling access and the overall community benefit of the project."

I continue to follow up with Council to ensure that this remains on their priority.
