My children attend St Augustine’s, and like many parents in the Darlington area, I want my kids to be able to walk to school independently and safely. However, daily, they face a dangerous challenge: crossing Coniscliffe Road, a busy main road with fast-moving traffic and limited visibility.

Currently, there is no pedestrian crossing on Coniscliffe Road, making it incredibly hazardous for children and parents alike. This road is a key route for several schools, meaning hundreds of pedestrians, including young children, need to navigate it every morning and afternoon. This lack of a pedestrian crossing significantly increases the risk of accidents, and the potential for tragedy is ever-present. We've witnessed near misses that could have been prevented if there was a designated crossing.

Statistics show that areas with appropriate pedestrian infrastructure see a reduction in accidents involving pedestrians by up to 40%. Implementing a simple pedestrian crossing could dramatically improve safety for all residents and give parents peace of mind.
