This morning, tragedy struck our community when a man was fatally hit by a car on Canley Vale Road, right outside the bakery. This incident has sent shockwaves through Canley Vale, NSW 2166, reminding us of the urgent need to address pedestrian safety in this area.

Canley Vale is a vibrant community, but it is also a bustling area with heavy traffic flow, particularly along Canley Vale Road. Despite the high traffic, there are no safe pedestrian crossings for people to use. This absence of designated crossings poses a significant risk, especially to our most vulnerable citizens—the elderly and children. Numerous accidents have occurred due to this negligence, with some resulting in fatalities and life-altering injuries.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, safe pedestrian crossings are crucial in reducing accidents. Studies show that clearly marked pedestrian crossings can decrease the incidents of pedestrian-vehicle collisions by up to 46%. Yet, our community remains without this essential safety feature.
