The Issue

Being a parent of three children in Stoke-on-Trent, I often find myself struggling to provide affordable and fun outdoor activities for my kids during the hot summer months. Waterworld, our local water park, is a fantastic place, but it can be quite expensive for families to visit regularly. This challenges many parents in our community who want to keep their children entertained and cool during the scorching days without straining their wallets.

A splash pad or paddling pool in Hanley would be an invaluable addition to our area, providing a free and accessible opportunity for children to play, socialize, and escape the heat. Many cities in the UK, such as Birmingham and Manchester, have successfully implemented free splash pads in public parks, offering a safe and enjoyable space for families to gather. These facilities are not only a hit with the youngsters but also contribute to better physical and mental health amongst children by encouraging outdoor play.

By installing a splash pad, our community can also reap the benefits of increased interaction and connection among residents. It would undoubtedly foster a stronger sense of community, as families come together in a shared space. Furthermore, a splash pad would attract more visitors to Hanley, giving a boost to local businesses like cafes and shops surrounding the area, enhancing the local economy.

Promoting outdoor, social, and physically active fun through such a facility will have long-lasting positive effects on our children and our town. Thus, I urge the city council of Stoke-on-Trent to prioritize the creation of a splash pad or paddling pool in Hanley.
