The Issue

Respected Sir/Madam,

On behalf of the Electronic City Bangalore Apartment Federation, representing thousands of daily commuters in and around Hebbagodi, we are writing to highlight a critical safety and accessibility issue at the Hebbagodi Metro Station which has been launched recently by our Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

This station has quickly become a lifeline for residents, students, and employees across Bommasandra and Electronic City. Yet, despite its importance, the absence of a footover bridge (FOB) forces commuters to risk their safety by crossing a busy, high-speed road every day.

During peak hours, dense traffic and heavy pedestrian movement merge into a dangerous bottleneck. Parents with children, senior citizens, and differently abled commuters face the greatest risks. Without a safe crossing, each day sees countless near-misses — a serious accident is not a matter of “if” but “when.”

Why a Footover Bridge is Urgent
Pedestrian Safety First – Eliminates risky road crossings and prevents accidents.
Smooth Traffic Flow – Reduces delays caused by pedestrian-vehicle conflicts.
Inclusive Access – Ensures safe connectivity for all, including vulnerable groups.
Public Transport Growth – Encourages greater metro usage, reducing road congestion and air pollution.

Learning from Other Cities
Metro stations in Bengaluru — such as Baiyappanahalli and Yeshwanthpur — already feature footover bridges, demonstrating the impact of this simple infrastructure on commuter safety and traffic management. Cities worldwide prioritize pedestrian-first access near transit hubs, recognizing it as a fundamental requirement for sustainable mobility.

Our Appeal
We strongly urge the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), in coordination with local authorities, to:

  • Prioritise the planning and construction of a footover bridge at Hebbagodi Metro Station.
  • Consider modern design elements such as escalators, ramps, and rain shelters to ensure year-round usability.
  • This is not just an infrastructure upgrade — it is an investment in saving lives, reducing pollution, and fostering a commuter-friendly city.

Our community is ready to extend all support in the form of public awareness, on-ground coordination, and data sharing to help expedite this project.

We trust that your commitment to building a safe and sustainable Bengaluru will guide you to take swift action on this urgent need.

Sincerely,
Secretary,
