The Issue

After a long, grueling hockey session, there’s nothing worse than stepping into the shower, only to be greeted by freezing cold water. This is the reality for countless hockey players at the IBP Ice Center in Sioux City, IA. This happens almost every single time, simply because the hot water supply has been drained to fill the Zamboni.

Imagine coming off the ice, your muscles screaming for relief and warmth, only to endure a shockingly cold shower instead. A comforting hot shower should be a basic amenity for anyone who uses the facilities. Our current situation not only affects our comfort but also our health as players.

This isn’t just about comfort, it’s about safety and wellbeing. Cold showers after intense physical activity can lead to muscle soreness and stress which can, in turn, increase the risk of injury. It is crucial for the recovery of athletes to have access to warm showers immediately post-session.

The IBP Ice Center is a beloved community facility and hosts numerous events, from local leagues to regional tournaments. Having a reliable hot water supply for showers is essential for everyone involved. Installing a dedicated water heater for the showers at the IBP Ice Center would greatly enhance the experience for all athletes, home teams and visitors.

I propose that the IBP Ice Center management, local government, and supportive community members collaborate on a solution for this issue. Installing a separate water heating system for the showers would ensure a continuous and sufficient supply of hot water, improving the overall satisfaction and safety of using the facility.

Let's work together to make the IBP Ice Center an even better place for athletes. Sign this petition to show your support for a dedicated water heating system, ensuring we can all enjoy the simple comfort of a hot shower after an exhausting day on the ice.
