The Issue

Every day, crossing Goodale Blvd. feels like a game of chance. For years, residents and pedestrians in our neighborhood have been forced to navigate this busy road without any form of protection or visibility. The street sees heavy traffic throughout the day, and the current lack of a crosswalk severely compromises the safety of anyone attempting to cross. On the corner of Goodale and Gladden there are no crosswalks, visibility is shockingly low, and vehicles travel at high speeds, making it hazardous for residents, children, and persons with disabilities.

Recent data suggests that more than 20% of pedestrian-vehicle accidents occur at unmarked intersections like Goodale, and the absence of a crosswalk only heightens this risk. It's a tragedy waiting to happen, and it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured or worse. Our neighborhood deserves better.

Signing this petition is the first step in creating a safer neighborhood. We are reaching out to the local municipal council and traffic authorities to prioritize the installation of a well-marked pedestrian crosswalk along Goodale Blvd. Not only will this simple measure reduce the risk of accidents, but it will also encourage safer and more walkable streets for everyone. There are successful examples in neighboring regions where crosswalks have drastically reduced pedestrian injuries and even promoted local business by making areas more accessible.

We strongly urge the local authorities to conduct a traffic study,  install a curb cut for ADA access, place appropriate speed reduction signs, and install a crosswalk equipped with necessary signals to ensure the safety of all residents. These are small, actionable changes that will have a profound impact on our community's welfare.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a critical safety improvement for Goodale Blvd and standing with us in our plea for a more pedestrian-friendly neighborhood. Let's not wait for another accident to initiate change – let's make Goodale safe for everyone now.
