Install a Crossing Guard at Hollywood & West Saddle

Install a Crossing Guard at Hollywood & West Saddle
The Issue
As a concerned parent residing in Ho-Ho-Kus, I am reaching out to request a crucial safety measure for our children. My kids, like many others in our community, have expressed their desire to walk to school. However, the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and West Saddle River Road poses a significant threat to their safety.
Despite being equipped with a flashing yellow light, drivers often ignore this caution, driving at alarming speeds as they race to Rte 17. The limited visibility at this intersection exacerbates the danger, leaving even vigilant pedestrians at risk. It's not uncommon for me to witness these hurried drivers neglecting traffic rules, making the journey hazardous for anyone trying to cross.
During the warmer months of the school year, when walking to school becomes more frequent, having a crossing guard stationed at this intersection could drastically reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of our schoolchildren. Crossing guards are trained to manage busy intersections, facilitating the safe passage of pedestrians and slowing down traffic during critical times.
The addition of a crossing guard would not only safeguard current walkers but also encourage more children to walk to school, promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing vehicular congestion during school hours.
Ho-Ho-Kus is known for its family-oriented values and community spirit. Let's uphold those values by taking this step to protect our children, ensuring they can navigate their journey to and from school safely.
Join me in urging town officials to install a crossing guard at the intersection of Hollywood and West Saddle. Sign this petition to make our streets safer for everyone.
