Add a disclaimer to Facetuned photos on Instagram

The Issue

69% of females between the ages 10 and 18 state that photographs of models and celebrities in the media motivated their “ideal” body shape (Polaris Teen Center, 2019).

71% of people admit to using Facetune to edit their photos before posting on Instagram (Aspinall, 2020).

Social media, specifically Instagram, is one of the biggest factors behind negative body image and eating disorders in adolescents. If a law is passed that forces Instagram to disclose on each post whether it is edited or not as a disclaimer, fewer influencers would edit their photos to avoid backlash and people would be more aware of the differences between edited and ‘real’ photos, which would result in better body image and fewer cases of eating disorders.
