Inspect 507 N. Kentucky Avenue for R-3 Zoning Status and Wildlife Protection
The Issue
As a resident of N. Kentucky Avenue, I find myself amidst a common struggle that all the residents who live on the street face - the issue of insufficient parking, which is exacerbated due to inaccurate zoning classifications.
The current City of Corbin guidelines state that each home should have street parking to accommodate two cars; however, the reality is far removed from this. Visitors, delivery personnel, and utility vehicles often struggle to find parking spaces, causing road congestion and inconvenience.
The lot located at 507 N. Kentucky Ave. is currently for sale and has an R-3 zoning. Street parking is already exhausted, and to further complicate the issue, N. Kentucky Ave. is a dead end street with very little room for vehicles to make turns. The street literally will not accommodate any further vehicle parking, especially, if a multi-family dwelling is erected.
Furthermore, within this zoning discrepancy, another pressing matter arises - the protection of wildlife. Bald Eagles, a symbol of pride, have recently been spotted on the aforementioned R-3 zoning property. It is believed that they have established a nest there. It is crucial to remember that as per state law, we are forbidden to disturb nesting areas of Bald Eagles (source: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service). This imperative law underscores the need to reconsider and rectify the present zoning classification which could inadvertently threaten the existence of these majestic birds.
This petition is not only about the welfare of our community, but also about preserving the natural balance and conserving our wildlife. It is high time the City of Corbin conducts a fair inspection of the R-3 zoning at 507 N. Kentucky Ave, to ensure accurate zoning, alleviating parking issues, and safeguarding the nesting Bald Eagles.
Let's speak up for our neighborhood and its feathered inhabitants. Please sign this petition to urge the City of Corbin to address this crucial matter.
