In May 2015, nationally recognized HVAC expert, Dara Bowser, called on then Minister McMeekin to conduct an Inquiry regarding certain HVAC systems and the lack of enforcement of the Ontario Building Code. Bowser provided detailed, very credible information to Minister McMeekin and ministry staff. A number of MPPs also supported Bowser’s call for an Inquiry. But, Minister McMeekin responded saying he would not commission an Inquiry, and, as far as we know, he did absolutely nothing about this serious matter. A senior Ministry official asked if anyone had died when we told her of the request to conduct an Inquiry. That was the end of the response from those officials. They seemed to hunker down, and hope that Bowser, and his supporters (included many directly impacted consumers and CPBH) would just go away. But Bowser has persisted. In June 2016, Minister McMeekin resigned as minister, and Minister Chris Ballard was appointed as the new Minister of Housing. On June 19, 2016, Bowser wrote to Minister Ballard, and called on him to commission this important Inquiry. CPBH, and many others, have supported Bowser’s request for an Inquiry again.
