Inquiry into Victoria police prosecution powers

Inquiry into Victoria police prosecution powers

The issue

Currently, there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY for decisions made by Victoria police prosecutions to:

  • initiate prosecution
  • continue prosecution or
  • discontinue prosecution.

In the matter of Maryanne Harrison, the Ballarat police represented by Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) have engaged in 7 years of prosecution against Maryanne which I say meets the definition of MALICIOUS PROSECUTION and hence does not satisfy their test to prosecute:

  1. A reasonable chance of conviction.
  2. In the public interest.

Consequently, the financial cost to State, the community and Maryanne has been astronomical, millions of YOUR tax payer dollars have been diverted away from essential government services for the people of Ballarat and instead invested into a 7 year long malicious prosecution.

Victoria Police Prosecution are OUT OF CONTROL and have no accountability.

This petition asks the Chair and Deputy Chair of the  Victorian INTEGRITY AND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE for a state inquiry into police prosecution powers, how decisions are made, who is responsible, what are the processes to ensure accountability and transparency for decisions made by police prosecutions?

Maryanne Harrison's would be the lead case then we would hear from the public who have been also subjected to BAD decisions made by Victoria Police Prosecutions.
