Innovate the National Curriculum for a Modern Learning Environment

The Issue

As a newly minted teacher entering the vast realm of education, I find myself questioning the content we are offering to our future generation. The current National Curriculum, no doubt, proposes a comprehensive education plan for our children. Yet, we stand at an interesting juncture - teaching and inspiring children with a curriculum that echoes learnings from over a decade ago.

Our world has moved ages ahead in these 11 years, so why hasn't our National Curriculum? Technology, science, environment, society - we are failing to include the real-time progress in these areas within our teaching methodologies. As educators, how are we to ignite the spark of modern learning within our students, if our curriculum isn't modern at all?

According to the Department for Education, the last significant reform to the National Curriculum was made in 2014. This makes our primary educational design almost a decade old (source: Department for Education, UK).

Education must reflect the society it serves. If we intend to prepare our students for the world outside their classrooms, it is vital that we equip them with the most recent, relevant and innovative knowledge. We need a curriculum that we can use that will inspire the children and encourage them to develop into strong individuals guiding them to success!

Join me in urging the Education Department to revisit the National Curriculum immediately. Let’s ensure our children’s education is as modern, resourceful and forward-thinking as the world they live in. Now is the time to innovate our National Curriculum for a more engaging, contemporary learning environment. Please sign this petition to drive change.
