Parker Wells is an eleven year old boy on the autism spectrum who has recently gone missing on July 16th, 2026 in Calgary, Alberta. Parker has been reported to hold the cognitive function of a toddler. He is described to be entirely reliant on external assistance. The boy had been under supervision of the dayhome 'Responsive Children's Support Ltd' located on 0 to 100 block of Connaught Drive N.W. The dayhome had reported Parker's disappearance to the police before looking for the boy on their own account. However, despite the call - an amber alert had not been issued for Parker until Saturday, June 18th, 2026. The reasoning behind this delay had been that Parker was not abducted or had been in 'imminent danger'. 

According to the 'Missing Children's Society of Canada (MCSC)' and 'MissingKids.Ca' - approximately 49% of children on the autism spectrum often flee or wander from their environment before reaching adulthood. Because these children are often incapable of perceiving dangers safely (such as large bodies of water or busy transit hubs) they are more susceptible to being at greater risk for potential harm. The Canadian police regards disappearances involving neurodivergent children as a tier-one emergency.  

Parker's case is an unfortunate situation that had been intiated through preventative measures. As a community, we are responsible for protecting our youth. Especially for protecting those who cannot protect themselves. 'Parker's Law' would be an implement that would make it mandatory for people with cognitive disabilities who have been reported as 'missing' to be issued immediately with a province wide alert and urge the police to initiate a much more rapid response for search efforts. Due to the fact that people with functional restrictions are more susceptible to danger, their safety is more likely to be at risk. The integration of this law would allow for greater accessibility to emergency resources for families affected and would eradicate the restricted requirements for an amber alert to be issued.

The citizens of Calgary have implemented a tremendous effort in unifying together to locate Parker. As the search continues, we must advocate for our youth - especially for those who are incapable of defending themselves. The integration of 'Parker's Law' would aid in the dismantling against the oppressive restrictions that harm our children's safety. With more pressure on our legal system - our children may be capable of residing within a safer environment. Let's fix our policies and bring Parker home.
