As a concerned citizen, I write to urge for immediate action towards the rebuilding of the Mullaperiyar Dam, a structure that is now over a century old and houses a vast 15 TMC water body spread across 4668 Acres of land. This ancient dam not only caters to the needs of the local residents but is also responsible for supplying resources to numerous migrants who have found a home in its surroundings. Currently, an approximate of 4 million people, inclusive of migrant laborers from various parts of India, is residing under the risk of a potential catastrophe that could follow a dam collapse. Our plea is not just a voice of worry but a desperate call for the safety of millions of lives and the preservation of our lands. A delay in necessary action could inevitably result in unbearable distress and irreversible loss to the region and its inhabitants. We, therefore, implore the concern authorities to consider this matter as of utmost urgency and take immediate steps for the rebuilding of the Mullaperiyar Dam to prevent any future disaster.
