The Issue

On April 4, 2026, a bright light was extinguished from our community in Colorado Springs. Benjamin Greenfield, a man known for his kindness and unwavering spirit to help others, was brutally killed by officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department. The incident took place at a McDonald's where three out of four officers fired an astonishing 40 shots in under 10 seconds. They acted without knowing if Benjamin posed any real threat. This wasn’t an isolated incident, unfortunately. Many friends and community members have seen lives shattered or lost at the hands of those meant to protect us, culminating in the ultimate loss of Benjamin.

This chapter of grief and anger must prompt a change. It is imperative that we address the root causes of such unwarranted violence, demanding stronger de-escalation standards within our police force to prevent further tragedies. The 'Long Lived Benjamin Greenfield: Building Trust Through Accountability & Transparency' initiative is our community's collective effort to advocate for comprehensive reform in the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Our call to action encompasses several pillars: First, we demand the establishment of transparent and strict disciplinary policies that hold officers accountable for unnecessary use of force. Second, we must insist on increased public accountability, ensuring that any officer involved in violent acts is subject to thorough, unbiased investigation.

Recent studies indicate that trust in law enforcement is at an all-time low, with a Pew Research Center survey from 2021 noting that 45% of Americans believe police force is not adequately controlled. It's clear that rapid response units, such as the one involved in Benjamin’s death, contribute significantly to this distrust. Policies must be re-evaluated to prevent unchecked aggressive actions.

Join us in standing up for Benjamin Greenfield and all those who have suffered due to police violence. This is a call to reform, a plea to our city leaders, and an invitation to our community to rally for justice. Together, we can drive the change needed so no other family has to bear the pain we are enduring.

Sign this petition to honor Benjamin's memory and to demand that our police force operates with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to safeguarding the lives they are sworn to protect.
