Initiate Frequent and Systematic Cleanups on Oregon's Beaches

Initiate Frequent and Systematic Cleanups on Oregon's Beaches
The Issue
I've always cherished my close emotional connection with animals. I am particularly drawn to ocean-dwelling creatures, their grace, diversity and their vital role in maintaining the balance in our ecosystem. Recent observations, however, raise grave concerns about their survival due to the deteriorating cleanliness of Oregon's beaches which have increasingly become fraught with litter and pollutants.
Studies show that seabirds, sea turtles, seals, sea lions, and whales are harmed and often killed by marine debris, specifically plastic ingestion and entanglement. It is estimated that over 700 species globally, including 86% of all sea turtle species and 44% of all seabird species, are affected by marine debris (Derraik 2002).
Oregon's beaches are not exempt from this critical issue. The complexity and beauty of our ocean's ecosystem is under threat and we need to act now to prevent further harm to our precious sea creatures. This petition deals not only with maintaining the cleanliness of our shores, but also with ensuring the continuity of the myriad of lives that inhabit them.
We invite all like-minded individuals, authorities, and organizations to join in our mission. Together, let's adopt responsible behaviors regarding litter disposal, prompt our local government to organize regular cleanups, and establish stricter penalties against littering in these areas.
Preemptive measures that ensure the cleanliness of the Oregon's coastlines are crucial for the betterment of the marine community. Protect our sea creatures. Make Oregon's beaches safe again. Please sign this petition.
