Initiate a clean reset on data center zoning in Calvert County

Initiate a clean reset on data center zoning in Calvert County
The Issue
My name is Patrick E. Flaherty, a long-time Calvert County resident running for County Commissioner in District 1. For over 40 years I’ve earned people’s trust by fixing things the right way — one honest repair at a time. That same commitment to transparency, accountability, and putting the community first is why I’m running.
Calvert County is at a crossroads. Families choose to live here for the rural character, the Chesapeake Bay, the quiet roads, and the strong sense of community. That way of life is now threatened by large-scale data center development.
While data centers are part of our digital future, we must get this right. Unchecked development risks our water resources, strains infrastructure, impacts wildlife, and could forever change the rural character we all love. Recent proposals have moved forward with limited transparency and without the full independent studies our residents deserve.
That’s why I’m calling for a full Clean Reset on data center zoning in Calvert County:
- Immediately remove all current data center language from the zoning ordinance.
- Restart the process from scratch with comprehensive, independent studies on water usage, energy demands, wetlands, traffic, noise, and cumulative impacts.
- Require real public hearings in affected districts before any new rules are written.
- Put transparency and protection of our rural character first — no more shortcuts or backroom deals.
This isn’t about being anti-progress. It’s about being pro-Calvert. We can grow responsibly while protecting what makes our county special for our children and grandchildren.
By signing this petition, you’re standing with me for thoughtful, accountable government that listens to the people. Together, we can demand a Clean Reset and a better future for Calvert County.
