The Issue

Con Edison has long been the dominant energy provider in New York City and Westchester, operating a near-monopoly in a market that should be open to competition. This has led to a lack of choices for consumers, often resulting in higher prices and poorer service. Monopolies stifle competition, impede innovation, and constrict customer options, which is why they are illegal under anti-trust laws.

The absence of competing energy suppliers allows Con Edison to dictate terms with little regard for consumer needs. Reports indicate that the residents of New York City and Westchester are often subjected to exorbitant rates, frequent service disruptions, and inadequate customer service. A study conducted by the New York State Public Service Commission revealed that Con Edison has faced numerous complaints, yet alternatives remain nonexistent.

In many other regions, deregulation of the energy market has led to reduced prices, enhanced service quality, and increased customer satisfaction. If we had a choice to switch providers, Con Edison would be incentivized to improve its services and offer competitive rates to retain customers.

We propose initiating a class action lawsuit against Con Edison to challenge its monopoly and push for the introduction of alternative energy suppliers to the New York and Westchester markets. By doing so, we can promote a fairer market landscape, empower consumers with real choices, and potentially lower energy costs.

Your support is crucial in bringing this issue to light and effecting a change that could benefit countless residents. Sign this petition to demand a more competitive and equitable energy market for New York City and Westchester.
