Jesse Nicely started this petition to Councilman Alex Padilla Inglewood City Council and

The following is a petition in support of building an Off-Leash Dog Run at the location of Edward Vincent Jr. Park in Inglewood, California.

Currently there is no dedicated dog park or dog run area in all of Inglewood. The closest Dog Parks are located in El Segundo (over 7 Miles Away from Edward Vincent Jr. Park) and in Playa Vista (Bluff Creek Dog Park over 5 miles away).

Edward Vincent Jr. Park offers ample space for an off leash dog run, and it is our belief that a dog run will be a positive space that will help to bring our community together.

  • Now more than ever, as we emerge from the lock down of quarantine, we are in need of safe outdoor spaces to gather. Creating a dog run within the current park, will act a much needed space that can help to safely unify our community.
  • Research shows that 35% of households in the surrounding zip code own dogs.
  • A dog park would give dog owning members of our community somewhere to properly exercise and play with their dogs. Public dog parks allow dogs to get ample off-leash exercise and social activity with other animals. When dogs get the adequate physical and mental exercise they need, humans are able to notice a decrease in the level of troublesome behavior from their dogs which will benefit society as well. Well stimulated dogs tend to be much better behaved and this would mean much less rehoming of dogs and dogs surrendered to shelters.
  • Responsible dog owners would respect the dog parks rules, and the community would welcome the move of providing a large secure dog park, and allowing the park to be free for the rest of the public.
  • America has hundreds of dog parks which are very successful with high fencing and a 2 gate system to avoid escapes.
  • Edward Vincent Jr. Park is a world class park featuring almost every amenity one could imagine -- baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, football and soccer fields, playhouse, amphitheater,  playgrounds, swimming pool and even a skatepark -- everything except a dog run.

It is the belief of those in support of this petition that an off-leash dog run at Edward Vincent Jr. Park will greatly benefit the surrounding community.

Our Back Story:
This petition was started by a group of Inglewood residents that all met while walking our dogs during quarantine. We would not know each other if it wasn’t for our dogs playing together. It is our desire to create a safe off-leash dog run where the dogs of our community can play, and a positive space to help bring members of our community together.
