Arranged by Ms Yuriko Koike and her office, the first briefing on liquid infant formula was held at headquarter of Jiminto (Liberal Democratic Party of Japan) on 25 May. About 10 National Diet counsels joined and were briefed on current status and regulations regarding liquid formula. I attended the meeting and introduced comments from petition signers, and I also briefed on the regulatory and market-wise issues that keep liquid baby formula unknown to consumers in Japan. From Kosei Rodo Sho (the Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare) participated the manager in charge of food safety regulations, who made clear that they are well prepared to consider setting criteria for liquid formula and are awaiting data from formula companies. May this be just a plain briefing session, I am glad to know that the representative of Japanese citizens are concerned about babies and parents. I am hoping this will be the start of an even greater movement.
